Learn What to Do if You Experience One of These 3 Common Summer-Related Plumbing IssuesThere is a lot to love about summer but it is not without its complications – especially when it comes to plumbing issues. At Econo West Heating Air & Plumbing we are always sure to remind our clients how to protect themselves in the hotter summer months and to call us at (661) 947-2653 right away if they experience one of these three plumbing issues.

  1. Clogged Drains
There are a number of reasons that clogged drains are more common during the summer than other times during the year. One reason is just the simple fact that there are often more people in a home during the summer – whether it’s kids home from schools or friends and family visiting. With the extra activity can come added stress and wear and tear on your plumbing system.
The best way to prevent a clogged drain is to ensure that everyone who uses your bathroom knows what not to flush down your drains and toilets, including coffee grounds, wet wipes, bacon grease, paper towels, food scraps, oil, or napkins. If you notice a drain is clogged, call your local plumber right away.
  2. Collapsed Sewage Drains
It can get dry in the summer, and when that happens anything in the ground can be affected – including sewer lines. The hot weather can lead to cracks is sewer lines, which can cause serious problems. The good news about this issue is that it takes years of dry, hot weather to break down the sewer lines to need sewer repair for this reason. You can reduce the chances of this happening by watering your lawn during hot months and protect an exterior, unburied pipes with breathable insulation.
  3. Blocked Gutters
It is true that falling leaves are the most common substance that clogs up gutters, but it is not the only substance. There are many reasons that your gutters can get clogged up and when it happens during summer, you can see some serious damage as a result. In some cases, debris will have been slowly becoming trapped in your gutters through winter and spring, then summer rains come and the gutters are completely blocked.
The best way to prevent this from being an issue is to have your gutters cleaned at least once per year. If you have numerous trees on or around your property, you may want to have them cleaned every six months or even more often. The money you spend having your gutters cleaned is well worth it to avoid burst pipes.
