3 Problems That Could Be Affecting Your Heating System Right NowLike it or not, winter is on the way and cooler weather will come with it. While those of us in California may not have to deal with temperatures as extreme as folks in the Midwest do, we still need to plan to keep our heating systems in great shape.

At Econo West Heating Air & Plumbing, we recommend that you start with annual maintenance on your heating system. While there may be thousands of things that could go wrong, we’ve found that there are three problems more common than the others.

A filter that’s become clogged

You should be changing your furnace filter every month that it’s in use. Not doing so can disrupt the flow of air into your home, which makes your furnace work harder – which can reduce both how efficient it is and how long it will last. This strain is completely unnecessary and can be avoided by simply replacing your furnace filter. If you’re not sure how to replace your filter or what kind of replacement to buy, just call Econo West Heating Air & Plumbing for your maintenance service and we’ll be happy to show you how to replace your filter while we’re there.

Issues with the ignition

If you’ve noticed that your heater gives off very little heat, or doesn’t seem to be giving off any heat at all, then you may have an issue with the ignition. The first thing we’ll do is to see what type of ignition your system has. If it’s an intermittent pilot system, then it utilizes a gas pilot that’s lit by a high voltage electric spark every time you set your thermostat. That then lights the main burners. In another type of heating system, a hot surface system, the gas burner is lit via resistance heating that’s controlled electronically. Either way, we’ll take a look and if your ignition isn’t working correctly, we’ll provide the furnace repairs you need.

A thermostat that’s not working correctly

The purpose of a thermostat is to give you the ability to decide how much heat you want and when it should come on. If it’s not working correctly, then you’ll get little or no heat in your home. Generally, this is due to one of two reasons. First, it might be that your thermostat isn’t sending the proper messages to your ignition. Second, it may be that your fans that typically force the hot air through your home may not be getting activated, which can prevent your home from properly heating.

The best way to ensure that your heating system is up and running correctly is to work with Econo West Heating Air & Plumbing for regular maintenance. In the event that your system isn’t working right, call us right away. We can often quickly and inexpensively fix a small problem that would have been much more complicated to repair if you’d waited.
